Brown University
The Digital Ark's (TDAC) first digitization project with Brown University Library, the Hubert Jennings Papers represent some of the most important scholarship on the famed Portuguese author and poet Fernando Pessoa. Standout items in the collection include biographical works on the poet’s stay in South Africa – Fernando Pessoa in Durban (1986) and Os Dois Exílios: Fernando Pessoa na África do Sul (1984). TDAC captured a total of 2,882 pages of materials - onion skin manuscripts, bound volumes, illustrations, photographs, postcards, negatives, transparencies, and ephemera - on a custom-built copystand, using a state-of-the-art Canon EOS 5DS R DSLR camera with a 50.6 Megapixel sensor. TDAC's extensive experience handling delicate archival materials, rigorous standards for image quality, detail, and organization, and fine-tuned strategies for optimal throughput and image processing all contributed to the creation of FADGI compliant digital images. Deliverables were 400 ppi TIFF files: one archival-quality master file for storage, and a derivative cropped according to Library of Congress specifications for each digitized page.
